Lot's of new stuff

12/25/2014

I finally got around to adding some new stuff to the site.  My sister in law berated me for not having her Dragon cane on, so now it's here!  The River Bend Wood Carvers thought we hadn't done anything in a while, so I added some stuff there as well.  Several Veteran's Canes, lots of mugs in the "Tweenware" section and a few "Miscellaneous" items also.  Check out the rest of the pages as well 'cause I may have put something in there too (didn't write it down, so I don't remember it!).

Have a Wonderful Christmas and a Terrific New Year!

I have written two new "stories" about the "students" at UGSFW.  They will be posted in the next couple days along with photo's of the carvings which help to tell the story.  Several new canes in the "veterans Canes" sections will also be posted.  My lovely wife is going to help my bring some of the upgrades to fruition because I tend to procrastinate more than I should, but I will correct this character fault... when I have time.

Wildlife Carving Club has changed it's name to River Bend Carving Club

The Wildlife Carving Club has changed it's name to River Bend Carving Club!  Many of our members carve subjects ranging from fish to Cypress knees to Santa's to a variety of caricatures... some even pursue the "Art of Fire", Pyrography (wood burning).  To better show the diversity of our artists, we felt the name had to show we were not restricted in our carvings.  The new name doesn't make prospective members feel like they are imposing on a group that only carves wildlife (although at one time it was quite restrictive).  The name "River Bend Carving Club" also shows the pride we have in our meeting place, River Bend Nature Center, Inc.  This 80 acre nature preserve along the banks of the Root River is a beautiful place to visit and relax.  They offer canoes, kayaks, skiing, nature trails and a lots of other fun things to participate in.  Stop in to see what they offer and you may see some our club's handiwork as we support them as volunteers to keep the place in the condition the public wants to see.

Cleaned up a few problems

One of our astute viewers caught a couple of errors in our links, so we repaired those.  Added a link to the best woodcarving event in Indiana and made a few changes suggested by Tina Clarke, who designs and maintains websites.

Working on a Veteran's Memorial cane, a cane for a Civil War buff with musket balls from the Gettysburg Battlefield mounted in it, three arms for the Surgeon who operated on my Wife's shoulder, a Luger pistol, a bunch of signs for River Bend Nature Center, and three trellis' for my loving Wife.

I hope to use this blog to show any updates to the site as well as make silly comments about stuff of interest to me.  Feel free to make comments or critiques on the site or the carvings.  I must approve any comments before they are published, so if you don't see it posted within a couple of days, I must have not liked it or thought it was not for public viewing.

I have about 15 years experience carving and some experience in Pyrography.  I would love to share the knowledge I have picked up with other carvers.
